I think attitude is a word that is often misconstrued by many people. They make statements like “you have a good attitude,” or even “you have an attitude problem !” The word can have a negative association in itself: “Don’t give me attitude!”
Your attitude is determined by the ideas that you have become emotionally involved with in the past. If you become excited about setting up a business. You have a business idea that you are creating a buzz about! You start to visualise what the business would look like and how it could help other people.
The idea gains momentum as you work towards achieving your goals in the present moment. This is an example of a good attitude because your mind needs clearly defined goals. The mind thinks in pictures and it needs clarity in order to manifest. The feeling of excitement will grow, as long as the idea is visualised in the mind regularly.
When doing work, awareness of the present moment is very important in order to enjoy what you are doing. In this way, the quality of your work is of a high standard. It also helps you to stay focused and in the moment. Meditation clears the mind allowing you to become present in the here and now.
If you are feeling angry: focusing on problems, places and people that cause anger leads to more feelings of anger and resentment: this influences your behaviour and determines how you feel and act. The secret to managing anger is to accept what caused the reaction and allow the feeling to pass. Showing compassion for yourself and other people makes life easier; ruminating and complaining about your problems will only make life more challenging: as these thoughts will keep you stuck in a negative vibration.
What is attitude?
Attitude is a combination of your thoughts, feelings and actions. Any idea/concept that comes into your conscious awareness can be accepted, rejected or ignored by your conscious mind. It is your choice what ideas you choose to give your attention to.
The ideas that you have given constant attention to, make up your current paradigm. Your paradigm is a collection of habitual behaviours that you have learned throughout your life up until now. The paradigm is stored in your subconscious mind. Changing your paradigm is the key to achieving results that stick: see my blog post change your paradigm.
Your attitude determines the energy that flows into what you do. Work that is done as a “means to an end” produces poorer quality results, compared to work that is inspired and creative. A winning attitude puts you into a positive, creative state. Achieving phenomenal results is not as much about having natural talent as having a winning attitude.
Attitude is a reflection of your own internal environment: how we think and feel on the inside, has a massive impact on the quality of our lives. By consciously choosing to give focus and attention to ideas that make you feel good, will improve your attitude.
This also means dropping anger and resentment. When you start to feel stressed, or in a negative state; stop and meditate or do something that makes you feel better. New positive ideas that make you feel good, need to be repeated over and over. This is how they become part of the subconscious mind: the part of the mind that controls your vibration. It is from this perspective that by improving your attitude, you can improve your life.
- Take control of your life situation by letting go of anger and resentment
- Stay focused on ideas that are uplifting and positive
- When you feel negative, meditate or practise yoga
- Work towards changing your paradigm
- Remember to have compassion for yourself and other people
