The Power of Sound
It is no secret that sound influences the way we feel and behave. This is why people enjoy listening to their favourite music: it makes us feel happy, nostalgic, chilled out or even relaxed. Music creates a certain ambience and mood within us.
“ Nada Yoga” is a type of Yoga that uses very basic arrangements of sound as a tool for transformation: this is a very powerful way of enhancing the quality of your life, by changing how you feel on the inside. After listening to certain Mantra’s (power sounds) on my i pod for 10-15 minutes a day, I feel more relaxed and calm. It is as a result of this, I have been more productive over the last two weeks.
The relationship between sound and form
Everything that exists on a physical level is energy manifesting as form. For example, water exists as ice; by heating it up, it changes form into liquid; boil water and it becomes steam; it then rises and precipitates falling as rain water. The cycle continues as water is always in a constant state of change.
The same is true of every form in the universe. People continue to change throughout their lives: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. In Yogic science and philosophy, it is understood where there is form; there is sound associated with that form. It is the subtler vibration of sound that creates the form.
Nada Yoga- “The Yoga of sound” works on the principle: you can feel a certain way, empowered, abundant, confident, healthy and relaxed by singing, chanting, humming or even listening to the right type of Mantra’s on a regular basis: this is because powerful sounds create powerful forms. There is many powerful Mantra’s associated with corresponding energetic states.
What is a Mantra?
A Mantra is a basic, subtle arrangement of sounds and syllables that repeat over and over. Every Mantra corresponds to a specific vibrational state: It could be abundance, self-esteem, confidence, health, well-being or inner calm.
The repetition of listening, chanting or singing the Mantra, activates the vibration within your conscious awareness. This is an excellent way of changing your paradigm that works directly on your energetic vibration. As the “sound vibration” is embedded in your consciousness, it will become much easier to manifest what feeling you are looking for.
The mantra’s that I have been listening to are from the album “Shiva Shiva” by The Sounds of Isha. There are 7 Mantra’s in total. I found by listening to them repeatedly, I began enjoying the energy of the sounds more and more. If you put your attention into your body and listen to these Mantra’s, you will feel calm and peaceful.
This link directs you to the Isha Foundation page where you can download the chants free with soundcloud. I purchased the album bundled with the e-book “Shiva Ultimate outlaw” through Gumroad. It’s “pay as much or as little as you like.” It’s called the “Shiva Shiva package” and is available on the same link.
